KAMLOOPS —  Air Guitar B.C. is seeking contestants to shred on their invisible guitars at an event next week in Kamloops.

The contest is on Friday, June 7, at the Blue Grotto in Kamloops with the best air guitarist winning a trip to Toronto to compete at the national level. The first-place winner in Toronto will go on to compete in Finland for the Air Guitar World Championships.

If you want to compete just pick a 60-second clip of your favourite song to rock out to and sign up online by clicking the link here. They will also have a Brave Souls Round for anyone who decides they want to compete the night of the event.

Aaron “Air-Head Air-Ron” Shufletoski, a two-time champion of the B.C. Air Guitar contest, is hosting the event.

"I’m retired from competitive air guitar, so I’m just here to educate and support," Shufletoski says on the phone. "It’s time for someone new to step up and represent B.C."

Shufletoski went on to the nationals in Toronto and got third place in 2017; then last year he tied for sixth place.

"I went more technical last year, not (too) showy," he says. "And Toronto judges seem to like a bit more 'flare' than technique — which is a shame really."

The guest judges in Kamloops include Angie Heinze, Chris Bose, Coco Creme, Spikey Mike and Sean Luciw.

Proceeds go to MusiCounts, a Canadian music education charity.

Contestants from across the province are welcome. The first Air Guitar B.C. contestant to go on to Finland was Cole "Johnny Utah" Manson from Whistler, who won third at the world finals in 2008.
