The family of a Peachland who died under suspicious circumstances more than three years ago has renewed their calls for information.

Alexander Louis Hegedus, 54, of Peachland was found dead in his truck around 4 p.m., March 22, 2018, along the Myra Canyon Forest Road east of Kelowna. RCMP say his death was suspicious.

In a video issued by Kelowna RCMP in a media release today, May 7, the family asks anyone who has information about his death to come forward. They have offered a $20,000 reward to anyone who has information that leads to the successful arrest and prosecution of a suspect.

Hegedus was the owner operator of Canadian Painters. He and his employees were working at a job site near Ethel Street and Harvey Avenue in Kelowna on March 22, 2018.

RCMP say late in the morning on that day an incomplete 911 call was made from his cellphone in which he pleaded for help. Investigators believe he was running errands at the time in his Ford F-150 XLT, a four-door crew cab model with a matching canopy.

Police were called to a report of a deceased man in a pickup truck on the Myra Canyon Forest Service Road late that afternoon and it was Hegedus.

"We have followed numerous leads through the years, and spoken to many people. If you saw Alex or his vehicle that day, and haven’t spoken to us, we ask that you come forward now," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

"We also believe that there are people who have information resulting from conversations they may have had with a person or persons with knowledge or involvement in what befell Alex on this day," Noseworthy said. "We are appealing to these people to please come forward now."

In the video posted to YouTube today, his wife shared her last memory of Hegedus.

"He leaned in for a kiss. I said 'I have lipstick on,' and he said, 'I do now too.' That was the last time I saw him. The last kiss," she said.

"My dad didn't get to see me graduate that year. I didn't even attend my own graduation," one of his two daughters said in the video. "My dad was the hardest workers I knew. He employed many people in his years in Kelowna. He gave second chances to those who needed a break, and one of those breaks cost him his life."

If you witnessed this incident, have not yet spoken to police, or have any information about Alex or his vehicle that day, Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit can be reached at 250-470-6236.
