The fourth annual sunflower festival in the North Okanagan is underway and there are four acres of big, bright sunflowers to wander through.
The Bloom Flower Festival festival is run by Alexis and Marc Szarek, who are also known for a tulip festival in the spring, the only tulip festival in the Okanagan.
Festival goers can take photographs, enjoy food and drinks onsite or even order a package from a local eatery for a stunning outdoor picnic experience.
"There's a giant field full of flowers but you’re not just showing up to stare at flowers, it's more than that, it’s an immersive experience," said Kamloops resident Jennifer Jones who went to the festival. "There are little photo opportunities around every corner, an antique bathtub, a piano, a giant chair, it’s a photographer’s dream."

The Szareks started the Abbotsford Bloom Tulip Festival in the Lower Mainland in 2016 and when they moved to the North Okanagan they started the Bloom Flower Festivals.
“Our field is in a few different sections with the main field coming into the high bloom and others still a bit green but they should be in full bloom by the weekend,” Alexis said. “There are musicians playing on select nights and a small selection of food trucks onsite. People are having a really good time.”
Last year, the couple was growing flowers on leased land at 5050 Knob Hill Road, but this year the festival is on their home property at 4829 Salmon River Road.
“We’re so happy to be home,” she said. “Google Maps hasn’t updated the location yet, but our farm is on the way to the old location so you can’t miss it."
Bloom Sunflower Festival runs until Oct. 6, on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the rest of the week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tickets to the Bloom Sunflower Festival cost an adult $18.00 plus tax, with cheaper rates for children and seniors.
