There was a rare partial lunar eclipse of a full supermoon in skies over the Okanagan and Kamloops this week and some photographers captured the special moment.

Partial lunar eclipses happen when part of the moon dips into the Earth’s shadow.

The eclipse began at 7:21 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 17, and the peak of the eclipse occurred at 7:44 p.m. when the top 8% of the moon was in full shadow.

The September full moon is also a supermoon, which is a moon that reaches the closest point to Earth on its orbit making it look exceptionally big and bright.
