People in Kamloops and the Okanagan were quick to grab their cameras and cell phones last night to grab stunning images of the thunderstorms that rolled through the region.
B.C. Wildfire Service tracked 1,213 lightning strikes across the Kamloops Fire Centre on Aug. 10 as storm cells moved over the Okanagan, Nicola, Thompson and Fraser Valley regions.
At least six new small wildfires started Wednesday night and are suspected to be caused by lightning, but the wildfire service is watching for more potential spot fires to show up across the region, according to fire information officer Taylor Colman.
Meanwhile, the wildfire service is also preparing for more lightning and potential fires.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued today, Aug. 11, for a big chunk of the B.C. Interior including the Okanagan, South Thompson, Shuswap, Nicola, Similkameen and Boundary regions.
The conditions are just right for the severe thunderstorms to develop and those thunderstorms could produce strong wind guts, large hail and heavy rain, according to the latest report from Environment Canada.
