Armstrong resident Kelsey Ferguson Bernard was out walking her basset hounds early on a Saturday morning a couple of days ago when she saw bright hot air balloons drifting overhead.

“It was perfect weather, it was still and the sky was clear and blue,” she said. “They frequent the area and are gorgeous, they come right up above my house. There were people all over town out taking photos and posting them. Everyone enjoys the balloons, they’re uplifting to see.”

John Clempmer with Okanagan Ballooning confirmed it was his tour company floating hot air balloons over Armstrong over the weekend. His main takeoff point is usually in Kelowna but the airspace there is still closed due to wildfire activity so his company is operating out of Vernon and Armstrong.

“I love flying over the Armstrong countryside,” he said. “You have to wake people up a bit earlier to get there but it’s well worth it. The weather has been gorgeous. I’m glad the balloons are making people happy because it has been a really tough year for so many.”
