A mother bear and her cubs were seen wandering on a fairway in Kaleden earlier this week to the delight of some onlookers.
Brian Moen is a long-time resident at St. Andrews By The Lake Golf Resort and was able to catch the bear family on camera as they moved through the morning of Tuesday, July 18.
“It was fun just to watch them,” he said. “They were pretty close to some golfers, like 50 yards away but weren’t causing any harm.”
Moen often catches footage of bears walking past his security camera during the night, but said while it’s typical to see bears further up in the hills surrounding the course during the daytime, it’s unusual to see them so close up.
“Yea, you don’t see them on the course during the day often, but it was hot so I guess they were going to the lake for a drink of water.”

He said some golfers on the course drove golf carts closer to the bear and take photos.
“I’m not sure they did the smartest thing, pretty sure a mama bear can outrun a golf cart,” he said.

He said the bears don’t cause anyone harm and the community is good about keeping garbage secured and refraining from leaving bird feeders and other attractants out.
“Everyone loves to see the bears around here, and most people are careful and respectful of them. It was fun to watch them having a family day on the course.”
