Upon witnessing the largest number of moths in his life, a Kamloops man decided to become part of the swarm.
Mark Olsen, 19, was on his way home at early this morning, July 17, when he noticed two giants swarms of moths at the Kamloops Ram Dodge Jeep dealership.
“I was driving on the highway and saw it off to the side and was like holy shit,” Olsen said. So he exited the highway to get a closer look. “I was mesmerized by just seeing that many insects all at once."
Although moths can be off-putting for some, Olsen didn't want to squander such a rare opportunity. He’s been living in Kamloops all his life and had never seen such a large swarm.
“You couldn’t even see through them – it was just a cloud of bugs,” he said. So he left the shelter of his vehicle to mingle with the moths.
“I got out and stood in the middle. It was pretty freaky. But it was just moths so I knew it was pretty harmless – it felt just like a horror movie though.”
Olsen found it curious how the moths were mostly concentrating toward two lamps at the Dodge dealership but largely avoided the other lamps outside of neighbouring dealerships.
When contacted, staffers at the Dodge dealership were unaware the early morning moth invasion.
