Keremeos resident Diane McDonald never thought her ‘girls’ would be this famous.
McDonald recently set up a number of mannequins on her second floor balcony on a whim. She took them out of storage, put them in ball gowns and spaced them an adequate social distance apart.
Residents driving by on Upper Bench Road in Keremeos have been expressing their appreciation.
“The response has been marvellous. I sent a photo in to the local newspaper because friends were lamenting there was no local content. Since then the publicity has been non-stop. What fun,” McDonald says.
“The poor girls were locked up in sea crates since 2018 when I shipped them here. I was in the process of moving and thought it was time to get them out. They’ve been cooped up for too long.”
There is one more 'sister' who is on display at a relative's house in New Brunswick, so the display is one of near-national proportions.
McDonald put a mask on one of the mannequins "just for fun" and each one has a glass of 'wine' in their hand.
"Some people think I'm weirder than weird, but that's fine," she says. “Now more than ever, people need a diversion right now.”
