How trick or treaters can spread Halloween fun to folks who really appreciate it

If you’re looking for a different twist on trick or treating this year, consider bringing your children to a seniors living facility for Halloween.

Wendy Romanowski, recreation manager at Pine Grove Care Centre in Kamloops says the residents dress in costumes for the holiday, decorate the area for the haunting holiday and welcome children to enjoy treats with them.

“They light up with smiles, they love kids,” Romanowski says. “I think it brings them back to trick or treating… they remember their own children. It’s stimulating to reminisce.”

Pine Grove is one of many seniors facilities that welcome children on Halloween night. Parents can keep their little ones warm and indoors while also making a positive impact on someone’s life.

“We are trying to connect with the community. Just because these people live in a care facility does not mean that they’re booted from the community,” Romanowski says. “These people live here, but they still want to give.”

If you want to consider switching up your trick or treating practices, call your nearby seniors facility to inquire about Halloween events.
