KAMLOOPS — This Mother's Day weekend is going to be sunny and hot, and the City has just announced how you can beat the heat in Kamloops.
A tweet from the City of Kamloops says the Albert McGowan Spray Park and Westsyde Centennial Water Park will be open today, May 10, in time for the weekend.
You can bust out the swim suits from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, tomorrow and Sunday for the early waterpark openings.
Normally the parks don't open until June 1, but the parks manager Jeff Putnam says the service levels and budget allow for this special weekend opening.
"This year because of the unusually hot weather this weekend we decided to move some staff around to open up a couple of (water parks) to give people an option," he says, adding that the City has seen requests for water parks to open early in years when May starts to get hot.
For now the two parks will only be open this weekend.
Putnam says they will be keeping their eye on the weather and the cost to see if they will open the water parks over the next few weekends before June.
"We'll just go week to week right now," he says.
