Hot temperatures in Kamloops not quite record-breaking

KAMLOOPS - Temperatures soared into the high 20s Wednesday, and will get even hotter Thursday and Friday, but it wasn’t quite enough for a record.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures reached upwards of 28 Celsius in the Okanagan and 29.4 Celsius in Kamloops on Wednesday, May 20, but those numbers fell shy of records ranging from 28.9 C in Kelowna to 31.7 C in Kamloops.

Today and Friday, temperatures will flirt with 30 C throughout the Southern Interior but again will likely fall short of records that reach as high as 34.4 C. Temperatures will then cool down over the weekend, falling to the mid-20s by Sunday.

The next several days will bring a mixture of sun and cloud though there is a chance of rain over the weekend throughout the region and a chance of a thunderstorm in Kamloops Thursday. Overnight temperatures will stay above 10 C throughout the region over the next several nights.

Seasonal normal highs at this time of year are 20 C to 22 C with the normal overnight low reaching 8 C in the Okanagan and 9 C in Kamloops.
