Hot, dry weather continues in Okanagan, Kamloops

It may have been a cool, wet spring in Kamloops and the Okanagan but it’s turning out to be a hot and dry finish to summer.

High temperatures throughout the region will be above 30 Celsius through the weekend, according to Environment Canada.

The Weather Network and AccuWeather, which offer longer range forecasts, show those temperatures continuing through until the end of the month. Even then, they are only expected to drop down to the high 20s.

Some days are expected to be cloudy and there may even be a little rain.

The Environment Canada forecast for Kamloops, for example, shows a 30% chance of showers on Friday but with a high of 33 C.

The Weather Channel, in contrast, shows a 14% chance of showers that day, rising to 24% on the weekend while AccuWeather shows virtually no chance of showers at all through the weekend.

The Environment Canada forecast for Kamloops today, Aug. 15, is for mainly sunny skies with a high of 33 C. Conditions are expected to clear more by midweek with highs hitting 35 C. The normal high temperature for Kamloops for today is 28 C.

For the Okanagan, the high today is forecast at 32 C, rising to 34 C later in the week. The normal high temperature for today is 26 C. There’s a chance of local smoke in the Okanagan.
