Homeowner foils break in attempt

SALMON ARM - RCMP say a break and enter attempt involving six men Tuesday was foiled by a homeowner's security measures.

The owner of a property on Yankee Flats Road dialed 911, saying several men were trying to break in. The home is located close to Salmon Arm but within the Vernon zone so both detachments responded. The men were unable to get inside the home because of security measures the owner had in place.

"Police spoke to the owner who was unharmed and he provided good descriptions of the suspects," Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.

Officers cordoned off the area near the property and were able to locate two suspect vehicle with a total of six men between them who matched the desciption provided by the homeowner. They were taken into custody.

A long barreled gun was seized during the arrest and search of the vehicles.

The suspects who range in age from 21 to 38 are known to police, Molendyk says. Two are from Kamloops, three from Kelowna and one from Skookumchuck. They are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Vernon RCMP continue to investigate.
