ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Jason DeSantis scored 35 seconds into overtime to lead the San Antonio Rampage to a 3-2 win over the Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League action Tuesday night.
DeSantis took a feed from former Heat forward and current Rampage leading scorer Jon Rheault and chipped the puck over goalie Barry Brust for his first of the season.
Colby Robak and Greg Rallo scored in regulation for San Antonio (9-11-3), while Jacob Markstom made 32 saves in the win.
Roman Horak had a goal and an assist for the Heat (13-3-5), while Max Reinhart also scored.
Abbotsford entered the game with twice as many points as San Antonio, with the Heat sitting atop the league and the Rampage last in the league's rankings, but with the win San Antonio climbs out of the AHL basement.
The Rampage jumped out to an early lead after a giveaway by defenceman Chris Breen. James Wright intercepted a clearing attempt and threw the puck on net. Brust kicked it out but Wellman capitalized on the rebound at 3:24.
The Heat evened the score less than three minutes later with Rheault in the penalty box. Paul Byron's slapshot was deflected by Horak, giving the Czech winger 12 goals on the season.
Abbotsford almost took the lead with about seven minutes to go in the period but Ben Street's shot from the slot wrung off the crossbar, keeping the score tied at one.
The Rampage regained the lead before the end of the first. Rallo took a feed from Colby Robak and wired a wrist shot just inside the post on the short side, giving him a team-leading seven goals on the season.
Abbotsford tied the game again at 10:37 of the second period. Horak dug the puck out from behind the net and threw it out to Reinhart, who one-timed it past Markstrom for his first of the season.
Brust had a nice glove save off of Tyson Strachan with less than two minutes to go in regulation but he was beaten by the only shot he faced in the extra frame.
