NEW YORK, N.Y. - Carolina Hurricanes left-winger Jeff Skinner was named NHL first star of the week Monday after leading all players with nine points last week.

Skinner had six goals and three assists over the stretch to help the Hurricanes win four games in a row.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Brian Elliott was named second star and Minnesota Wild defenceman Ryan Suter was the third star.

Elliott posted a 3-0-0 record last week with a 1.00 goals-against average, a .962 save percentage and one shutout. Suter led all defencemen with four goals and was tied for first among blue-liners with six points as the Wild won two of three games.
