Defenceman Teemu Kivihalme signs with Toronto Maple Leafs

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Teemu Kivihalme to a one-year, entry-level contract.

The 23-year-old had nine goals and 21 assists in 60 games with Karpat of the Finnish league this past season. He added nine points (four goals, five assists) in 16 playoff games.

In Champions League play during 2018-19, Kivihalme recorded five points in 10 games.

The American-born Kivihalme was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2013 NHL draft.

Prior to joining Karpat, he played at Colorado College for three seasons, recording 36 points (10 goals, 26 assists) in 107 career NCAA games.
