NEW YORK, N.Y. - Toronto Maple Leafs winger David Clarkson has been suspended two games by the NHL for his head shot on Vladimir Sobotka of the St. Louis Blues.

This is Clarkson's second suspension of the season. He got an automatic, 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to enter an altercation during the pre-season.

That history played into the department of player safety's decision to give Clarkson two games, as did the fact that Sobotka was not injured as a result of the play.

Clarkson will miss Toronto's game Saturday against the Blackhawks and Monday at the Penguins.

As a repeat offender, Clarkson will forfeit roughly US$128,000 in salary as a result of the suspension.
