Highway rollover sends man to Kelowna General Hospital

KELOWNA - A rollover on Highway 97 early this morning has sent a 20-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries.

The man was driving a white Chevrolet Blazer northbound on the highway when it hit snow at the intersection with Leckie Road around 6:50 a.m., Kelowna RCMP says in a press release. The vehicle slid sideways before rolling onto its side and sliding into a utility pole.

The man, suffering from serious, non-life threatening injuries, had to be extracted from his badly damaged vehicle by firefighters. He is in Kelowna General Hospital in stable condition.

Police say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash but say the driver may have been driving too fast for the snowy conditions. Charges have not yet been laid.

Kelowna RCMP ask anyone who witnessed the accident and who hasn’t already spoken to police to call the detachment at 250-762-3300.
