KELOWNA - Another possible high-rise development has been proposed for downtown Kelowna.
Currently a parking lot, Mission Group Holdings has proposed consolidating three parcels and rezoning them to allow construction of a 178-unit 25-storey mixed use residential and commercial tower.
Planning staff support the rezoning, pointing out the majority of properties in the downtown core already have the C7 zoning that allows high-rise construction.
The floor area ratio for the site allows for only 19 floors, so the Mission Group is asking for height variance allowing a 75-metre tall building.
This project is not to be confused with the former Bargain Bargain Bargain site on Bernard Avenue which is also owned by the Mission Group.
Planning staff had nothing negative to say about the project, praising a walkscore that makes it a “walkers paradise”, within a five-minute walking radius of commercial services, employment, transit, parks and cultural amenities.
Council will consider the proposal at the public council meeting, 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Kelowna city hall.
