Night skies over Kamloops and the Okanagan were aglow this past week, with the full Sturgeon Moon reaching full illumination, the northern lights making a dazzling appearance and the year’s biggest meteor shower reaching peak activity.

Add to that some stunning sunsets and it’s clear to see what inspires photographers to head outdoors at night.

The Sturgeon Moon reached peak illumination just before midnight on Aug. 8 and viewers had to contend with cloudy periods to get these photos. The following night an aurora display shimmered across the Interior, including over picturesque Shuswap Lake and next evening a brilliant pink sunset appeared.

Known for its fireballs and long-lasting bright trails, the Perseid meteor shower is reaching peak activity on this week, however the bright moon could dim some of them out.

If you get photographs of the meteor shower you want to share, send them to news@infonews.ca.
