Two high-end mountain bikes were shipped back to their owners after they were recovered in Kamloops.
Four bikes, valued around $30,000, were stolen from the back of an RV in downtown Kamloops this summer while a group of tourists slept inside, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.
“At the time, there wasn’t much information for police to go on,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the news release. “Officers had distributed the photos and serial numbers of the bikes, but there was no surveillance or suspect images available.”
Two of those bikes were recovered two months after the theft, and one was shipped back to its home in New Zealand.
The first was recovered on 10 Avenue when an officer was patrolling the area on Oct. 22. He spotted a woman next to the bike and recognized it as stolen.
Another was spotted at Sahali Mall when it was reported by a member of the public. Officers recovered that one on Oct. 25.
“Two more of the bikes remain outstanding, but these two were turned over to a friend of the tourists to ship back home – at least one of which will be taking the long journey to New Zealand,” Cpl. Evelyn said. “This is a great example of the benefits in contacting police and reporting stolen items, even if it seems like their recovery may be a long shot.”
Although the other two bicycles are still at large, Kamloops RCMP did not send photos and serial numbers of those two bikes in the current news release.
