UPDATE: Police responded to armed suspect near Cherryville

A person has been arrested after they armed and barricaded themselves at a campsite near Cherryville earlier today.

Witness Krystal Arcand said there was a heavy police presence and a helicopter circling overheard at a campsite along Sugar Lake Road, northeast of the community, at about 1 p.m., Aug. 21.

As officers responded, the situation escalated into one with a person who was armed and had barricaded themselves, according to the B.C. RCMP. A RCMP Emergency Response Team was on site and the situation wrapped up around 3 p.m. today.

The suspect was taken into police custody but the RCMP did not have any details on who the person was or if they were known to police.

Two ambulances responded to the incident this morning at around 10:48 a.m., according to the B.C. Emergency Health Services.

No patients were transported by ambulance.
