Heavy snowfall warnings issued for Interior highways

FILE PHOTO

Forecasts of heavy snowfall have prompted special weather statements for Highways 1, 3 and 5.

Environment Canada is warning travellers about a series of Pacific systems that will impact highways in the Interior from tonight until mid-week.

On Highway 5, a special weather statement was issued for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, where heavy snowfall is expected to last from tonight until Sunday afternoon.

On Highway 3, Environment Canada is alerting travellers about stretches between Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, and on the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, where heavy snowfall is expected on Monday.

Travellers are reminded that rapidly accumulating snow can make things difficult, and visibility may become suddenly reduced in heavy snow.

Also, weather in the mountains can change suddenly and lead to hazardous driving conditions.
