Heavy snowfall is expected on some Interior B.C. passes today after already landing in some regions overnight.
Environment Canada issued a weather warning for the Eagle to Rogers Pass areas, where 15 to 20 centimetres will accumulate from today into the evening.
The weather system will bring snowfall into the southern Interior, where drivers can also expect some heavy snowfall in the Kootenay Boundary region.
In the Boundary region, 10 to 15 centimetres has fallen overnight and it is expected to ease around noon, according to Environment Canada.
However, the snow will intensify in the afternoon, and visibility is expected to be reduced suddenly for drivers.
A section of the Rogers Pass at Three Valley Lake is also closed throughout the day for avalanche control. According to DriveBC, there is no detour and the closure will be updated at 5 p.m., Jan. 3.
Temperatures in Vernon and Kelowna today are expected to remain steady around -6 C, while Penticton will warm to -1 C, according to Environment Canada.
The Okanagan cities will see periods of snow today and wind gusts.
To the northwest, Kamloops will be warmer today with a high of 0 C and some wind gusts up to 40 km/h.
