A high temperature of 37.8 Celsius in Kelowna yesterday, Aug. 14, broke the area’s record for the day of 37.3 C set in 1998.
Lillooet reached 40.7 C, breaking its 2021 record by 1.6 C while Cache Creek hit 39.2 C, adding 2.2 degrees to its previous record set in 1981.
Fourteen heat records were set in BC but those were the only three in the Thompson-Okanagan as this week’s heat wave continues.
Lytton surpassed Lillooet for heat, reaching 41.5 C but that was not a record for Aug. 14. Lytton holds the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada at 49.6 C set during the heat dome on June 29, 2021.

Kamloops reached 37.7 C yesterday but is forecast to hit 39 C today, 37 C tomorrow and 34 C on Thursday on the way to the end of the heat wave on Friday.
That heat wave has triggered heat warnings throughout Southern BC but highs in this region look to drop below 30 C starting on Friday.
Vernon reached 37.3 C yesterday and Penticton came in at 35.3 C. The Okanagan is forecast to reach 36-37 C today.
There has also been a special air quality statement issued for Vernon due to wildfire smoke. The Air Quality Advisory map shows smoke in the North Okanagan but not reaching as far as Kamloops or Kelowna.
