Grey, wet weekend forecast for the Okanagan

This week's weather has produced some showery conditions in the Okanagan, with more rain expected today, followed by a sunny day tomorrow. There may not be many rainbows visible in the Okanagan this weekend, however, with rain expected throughout Saturday and Sunday.

OKANAGAN - It’s not looking like a great weekend for outdoor activities in the Okanagan, unless those activities can stand some rain.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says the Okanagan weather pattern has returned to a more active state with an upper trough producing more seasonal conditions than the valley saw in March.

Castellan says April’s precipitation so far has nearly matched that seen in all of March.

If the grey conditions are getting you down, be glad you’re not in Ontario, where a Colorado low is bringing snow pellets and freezing rain to a good part of the province, including Quebec," Castellan says. “In Central Ontario, it’s been ugly."

Castellan says tomorrow looks like the best day over the next few days, with a grey and possibly wet weekend in store for the Okanagan.

Motorists using mountain highways should be aware of dropping snow levels with flurries expected on the Coquihalla Highway and the connector overnight tonight. RCMP issued a warning to drivers this morning about the wintery conditions on the Okanagan Connector.

Today, Okanagan residents can expect a cloudy skies later this morning followed by a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon, with a high of 12 Celsius and a low of 1 C. The snow level will drop to 1400 metres through today and tonight.

A sunny morning tomorrow will give way to a sun and cloud mix in the afternoon, with a high of 14 C and a low of 0 C.

For the weekend, expect periods of rain through Saturday, and a 60 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, with highs of 10 C on both days, and lows of 1 C and -1 C, respectively.

A mix of sun and cloud with a high of 12 C is expected Monday in time to start a new work week.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of around 15 C and lows of about 2 C.
