VANCOUVER - The federal Green party's deputy leader, Adriane Carr, is stepping down from the job after nearly eight years.
Carr, who was elected as a city councillor in 2011, says she wants to focus on her municipal re-election bid.
Carr was the first leader of the B.C. Green party, and she says being at the forefront of the Green movement for more than 30 years has been immensely satisfying and has helped propel the party forward.
Federal Green party Leader Elizabeth May says Vancouver will be well-served by Carr in the years to come.
May says Carr's legacy in building the party is secure, with Greens in B.C. elected to federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Carr received more than 25 per cent of the vote in her riding of Powell River-Sunshine Coast during the 2005 provincial election, but resigned the following year to become one of two deputy leaders of the federal Greens.
