KAMLOOPS - A grass fire broke out within Kamloops city limits today.
At about 3:00 p.m. today, March 31, Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to a grass fire near Aberdeen Mall.
Platoon Captain Wade Lindoff says the fire was moving rapidly and they could see a lot of smoke in the area between Cariboo Place and Hillside Drive.
Two downward lanes of Hillside Drive were closed until about 4:29 p.m.
Three KFR vehicles, and eight members knocked down the fire "fairly quickly" Lindoff says.
No injuries were reported and the fire was not near any structures.
Though no cause of fire has been determined the fire captain reminds the public to be conscience of the risks associated with wildfire season.
"Things have gotten dry in a hurry," he says on the phone. "Be careful of anything that can cause a fire."
