The Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan cycling event will be returning to the South Okanagan this fall after it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Organizers of the popular distance cycling event have scheduled the 2021 race for Sunday, Sept. 19 in Penticton, according to the Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan website.

This will be the 10th year for the race, which was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions last year.

The mass cycling event attracts recreational, elite and pro cyclists with four separate distance races to choose from, all starting and ending along Okanagan Lake.

This year's event will adhere to strict COVID-19 safe protocols that will comply with the provincial health order.
