VERNON - The incredible story of local legend Dag Aabye continues to spread.
Aabye, 76, is the subject of a short documentary by Vancouver-based Brick Films. The film was released earlier this week and is aptly named Never Die Easy: The Dag Aabye Story.
Dag’s life story, and his amazing off-grid lifestyle, was featured last year on iNFOnews.ca and in many ways, the tale took on a life of its own. Many people were inspired by his simple, yet rewarding way of life, including Adam Maruniak and Justin Pelletier, with Brick Films.
They travelled up to Vernon last summer in search of Dag and found much more than they were looking for. The film features stunning footage of Vernon and the surrounding mountains where Dag lives and runs, as well as interviews with Dag’s friends, Hall of Fame skier Brian James, and iNFOnews.ca’s own Charlotte Helston.
Maruniak and Pelletier have released several creative projects. Their most recent film, Amongst Fire, explores the relationship between Indonesian residents and the volcano that lies in their midst. It was recognized by the National Geographic in a short film official selection showcase.
