Giant market to shut down Victoria

KAMLOOPS - A number of events happening under the umbrella of the annual Downtown Merchants Market means you can expect to face some road closures this week.

Aside from the access to and from 1 Avenue being closed at Victoria Street (stores and parking are still open) a ‘Car Free Day’ will shut down the 200, 300 and 400 block of Victoria Street to traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Those three blocks will then play host to an expanded farmer’s market as well as sidewalk sales and the United Way Community Carnival. The carnival will include a variety of family friendly events, including games and activities, a bouncy castle, live music, a dunk tank and kids Zumba and yoga.

On Thursday, Victoria Street will be open but the Merchants Market continues with a Taste of the Downtown from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday the Street Battle of the Bands will take to 4 Avenue (between Victoria and Lansdowne streets) from noon to 7 p.m.

Saturday, the last day of the sidewalk sales, all streets not affected by construction will remain open.

The realignment of 1 Avenue, Victoria Street and Lansdowne Street, which has closed the corner of 1 Avenue at Victoria Street, is also forcing lane closures of Lansdowne Street west of 2 Avenue.
