A phenomenal effect from December’s bitter cold spell has unfolded along the Fraser River, where ice has accumulated into piles as high at eight feet in Agassiz.
Rick Landreville, who’s been living in the community since 1989, has never seen such a large volume.
“When my neighbour’s told me about the ice, I expected it to be maybe 40 to 50 centimetres thick for 10 or 20 meters like it usually gets,” Landreville said.
“I was gobsmacked when I seen the sheer scale of this phenomenon. Almost two kilometres of the beach was covered with over two meter thick piles of ice that extended three hundred metres from shore.”
