Get ready to set sail with Vernon Winter Carnival

Vernon Winter Carnival executive director Vicki Proulx kicks off the 59th Annual carnival themed, A Pirate's Carnival.

VERNON - The Vernon Winter Carnival has jumped ship.

Themed as the Pirate’s Carnival, the 59th annual event held its media and sponsorship launch yesterday, Jan. 9, at the Best Western Pacific Inn in Vernon.

Throughout the evening, Vicki Proulx, carnival executive director, highlighted all 99 events to get the seas swelling with excitement. Board Chair Deb White was not in attendance due to suffering two broken feet while on vacation.

Four events are already sold out; Suds and Cider, Predator Ridge Parka Party, Unwined Downtown and the Mother-Daughter Princess Tea, but there are dozens more with tickets still available, as well as many free family events.

"We are really excited to kick things off, and everybody loves the pirate theme this year," says Proulx, who was outfitted in her pirate theme costume, as were the carnival directors in attendance.

Events range from the always loved Chili Cook-Off, Hot Air Balloon Glow, Snow Sculpture Competition, Suds N Cider, Family Day at Polson Park, Battle of the Bands, Mother Daughter Princess Tea, St. James Family Fling and some new events such as the Valley First Treasure Hunt, a Night in the Ukraine, A Pirate's Cabaret and many more.
