Night sky watchers have a rare treat coming this week.

The full moon on Wednesday, July 13, will be the biggest and brightest moon of the year, the second of two consecutive supermoons.

The moon will arrive at its closest point to the Earth for 2022, according to www.nj.com.

A supermoon is a moon that turns full when its elliptical orbit is closer to the Earth than an average full moon, giving it a bigger and brighter appearance.

The July full moon is sometimes called a Buck Moon to signify the new antlers that emerge on a deer buck’s forehead around this time.

The supermoon on June 14 was the Strawberry Moon because it’s the full moon at strawberry harvest time.

According to the Weather Network, Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton are expecting a mix of sun and clouds, July 13, with Kamloops getting the best chance with mainly clear skies predicted.
