VICTORIA - New Democrat MLA Guy Gentner, who represents the Metro Vancouver riding of Delta North, has decided to retire and won't be running in the next provincial election.
NDP Leader Adrian Dix has issued a news release saying the two-term MLA will be missed.
Dix says Gentner has been a passionate advocate for the Agricultural Land Reserve.
Gentner was first elected to the legislature in May 2005 after serving six years as a Delta councillor.
The former bus driver currently serves as opposition critic for public health and sport.
Gentner's planned retirement brings to five the number of New Democrats who have announced they will retire or will not seek re-election in the May 2013 general election.
