Gateway casinos and union employees reach tentative agreement

The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union has announced publicly they have reached a tentative deal for workers at Gateway casinos across the Thompson-Okanagan.

In an emailed statement, the union's president Stephanie Smith says the next steps are to ensure members understand the agreement and get a chance to vote before they release details of the agreement to the public.

“On behalf of our almost 700 members working at the four Gateway locations in the Okanagan I want to thank the communities of Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton and Vernon for their support and remind casino guests that our picket lines will remain in place until the ratification process is complete," she says.

Gateway Casinos director of public relations Tanya Gabara confirms an unofficial agreement has been reached but cannot release further details.

"We can confirm that a tentative collective agreement has been reached with our BCGEU union employees in the Thompson-Okanagan" she says. "We have no further comment while our employees review the terms of the tentative agreement and while we wait for the union to provide further details regarding ratification."

Roughly 675 casino workers across the Thompson-Okanagan have been on strike since June 29.
