Gas prices spike upward in Penticton, relatively stable elsewhere

The rapidly changing scene of Okanagan fuel prices is changing once again.

After seeing a free fall in prices earlier this week, the South Okanagan is seeing a sharp rise this morning, Nov. 22, as prices are up from a low of 105.9 to 123.9 at some gas stations in Penticton, according to Gasbuddy.com.

Earlier this week, Penticton gas stations were selling a litre of regular gas for 112.9.

Prices in other markets haven’t seen as much fluctuation this week.

For instance, Kamloops fuel prices are sitting at 114.9 to 118.9 today, down between one and five cents from earlier this week, while in the North Okanagan, Vernon gas prices remain stable at 122.9.

Kelowna’s prices are sitting at 117.9 today, down about three cents from earlier this week.

For those travelling to the coast on the Coquihalla Highway, there's not much of a deal among Merritt gas stations today, with Gasbuddy.com reporting prices of 128.9 per litre in that community.

Analyst Dan McTeague with Gas Price Wizard said its costing Kamloops and Okanagan gas stations around $1.15 for a litre of regular gasoline.

He said prices below that level were indicative of a gas war, with a price of 122.9 more in keeping with what the retail price should be based on the present wholesale cost.
