Gas prices soar across the Southern Interior

The Chevron on the corner of Tronson and Okanagan Landing Roads in Vernon is selling a litre of regular for $146.9. Gas prices across the Thompson-Okanagan have jumped dramatically in just a few days.

A lot can happen in a few days when it comes to the price of gas, and motorists around the Thompson-Okanagan are finding that filling up their tanks costs significantly more today than at the beginning of the week.

On Tuesday, Apr. 9 Vernon boasted the cheapest gas prices in the province at $119.9 for a litre of regular, now just three days later prices in the city are around $145.9, with one gas station selling at $163.9, according to GasBuddy.com.

The cheapest gas in the Thompson-Okanagan is in Penticton, with the Chevron at 697 Eckhardt Ave. West selling a litre for $127.9. Proof that you don't have to go far for prices to change dramatically, as just one block away a litre at the Husky at 1436 Fairview Rd. is $142.9.

Prices haven't changed much since the beginning of the week in Kamloops with the cheapest gas at Costco $132.9, although the price does jump to $143.5 at the Esso on Columbia St. West.

The cheapest price in Kelowna is $143.9 at both Super Save 1425 Highway 33 West and Esso at 1901 Harvey Ave., with the majority of pumps around the city selling at $146.9.

The cheapest gas in the province is in Dawson Creek $124.9, while in Alberta, Calgarians are paying $119.9. Across the other side of the country gas in Toronto can be found for as low as $113.9.

Drivers in the Interior can still count themselves lucky compared to those in the Lower Mainland, where gas prices can be as high as $168.9.
