November’s full moon is the fourth supermoon in a row and the final one to appear this year.
The full Beaver supermoon reaches peak illumination at 1:29 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, appearing full and bright from Thursday night through to Saturday night.
The moon gets its name because it coincides with the time beaver trapping happened during the fur trade and because it’s the time of year beavers start sheltering in lodges, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
Other names for the November full moon include Frost moon, Deer Rutting moon and Whitefish moon.
A supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is at the point in its orbit that is closest to Earth, making the moon appear bigger.
The moon’s orbit around Earth is an oval shape, so the distance to Earth changes as it travels around it. The point in the moon’s orbit that is closest to Earth is called the perigee, while the farthest point is called apogee.

The Moon makes one complete orbit around Earth in about 29.53 days, which means it reaches its perigee and apogee points about once a month.
Unfortunately, skywatchers in Kamloops and the Okanagan wanting to view the full November moon will have overnight clouds to contend with for all three nights surrounding peak illumination, according to The Weather Network.
Next year, 2025, will bring us three supermoons in a row, with full supermoons on Oct. 7, Nov. 5 and Dec. 4.
