VERNON - The Vernon branch of the Okanagan Regional Library has a date to reopen.

Most of the repairs and restoration are complete after a flood ran through the entire main floor February 10 damaging carpets, walls, furniture and some books. The flood was caused by a pipe bursting in the book return room. Staff and restoration crews expect to be finished soon and the reopening date is set for April 23.

Families can celebrate the library’s reopening by attending Unplug & Play events.

-  Puppet plays “Elephant’s Child”, April 25 at 3:30 p.m.

-  “Mashenka and the Bear”, April 26 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

-  Origami Workshop, April 29 at 3:30 p.m.

-  Free Comic Book Day, May 3 all day

Lego club and Toddlertime won’t be back until September. However, Wednesday Storytimes and after school board games will resume until May 17 when we take a break to get ready for the fantastic lineup of Summer Reading Club activities. This year’s theme is “Funny Business” and you can expect lots of laughs with special guest Uncle Chris the Clown. A detailed schedule will come to your child’s school in June.

A special party will be held to celebrate the reopening on May 17, almost two years after the original Grand Opening of the branch! We will also be announcing the winners of the  creative writing “Big Orange Story Tent” contest. Details will be available soon. The library will be closed as usual for Easter weekend, April 18 to 21 as well as April 22. No late fines will be charged if books are returned by April 23. The book return bins will not be open until later that week, so books need to be returned during regular hours of operation.
