Gas prices are continuing to fall across the Okanagan and in Kamloops as the price of a barrel of oil dropped to historic lows late last week.

The price of a barrel of Alberta heavy crude was $5.06 on Friday, March 27, and those prices are starting to be reflected at the pumps.

This morning, March 30, Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton are all reporting fuel prices below $1 per litre for regular gas, with the Kamloops market well below a dollar.

Here’s what fuel prices look like in the region today, according to the latest data from GasBuddy.com:

  • Kamloops- 83.9 to 88.9 cents per litre of regular fuel
  • Vernon- 90.9 cents per litre of regular fuel
  • Kelowna- 94.9 cents per litre of regular fuel
  • Penticton - 89.9 to 94.9 cents per litre of regular fuel

The lowest gas price in the province today, according to GasBuddy, is the Costco station in Prince George, where a litre of regular gas is selling for 69.9 cents.

That compares with the average price of a litre of fuel in British Columbia today at 99.4 cents.

Prices at the pump are falling even faster in Alberta, where GasBuddy is reporting the province’s lowest price at 52.9 cents a litre at the Trailside Tempo station in Walsh.

Edmonton prices are in the 55.9 cent per litre range with Calgary’s best prices in the 57.9 to 61.9 cent per litre range.

To provide some historical perspective, data from Statistics Canada shows the last time prices were that low in Edmonton and Calgary was in 1999.
