The Labour Day long weekend is almost here and there are lots of outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy as the fall season approaches. Some events in and around Kelowna have been cancelled or postponed due to devastating wildfires in the region, but here a few places to get out for some fresh air and fun.
Penticton’s interactive Wildlife Festival showcases animals and their habitats to entertain and educate animal lovers of all ages. Guests can look forward to stage shows, educational displays and even interaction with a variety of species such as sloths and porcupines. Various events are running all weekend including an adults only event and a special quiet hour is scheduled on Sept. 2 for those with crowd and noise sensitivities.
The Wildlife Festival runs from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and more information and tickets can be found here.

The popular Kelowna Fringe Festival that typically wraps up the summer with eclectic entertainment was scheduled to run Aug. 28 to Sept. 3 but has been shut down due to wildfire activity, but fortunately the alternative, artsy event is not being cancelled, just postponed until Jan. 28 to Feb. 4 in the New Year.
The music festival, Denim on the Diamond which was scheduled for Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 has also been pushed back to a later date due to the wildfire activity but the new dates have not yet been announced.

Families might want to trot over to the famous Armstrong the IPE & Stampede, a five-day long exhibition packed with events, animals, competitions and much more. There are petting zoos, chuck wagon races and of course the action packed rodeo. Those who love carnivals can go to a fair full of rides, games and favourite carnival foods.
The Armstrong IPE and Stampede runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 this year.

Those in the Kamloops area might want to check out the 74th annual North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo in Barriere where this year’s theme is “Bee at the Fair.” Visitors can listen to a cowboy concert or dust of their boots and go dancing or just sit back and watch the lively rodeo where the best of the best will be competing at the BC Rodeo Association Polaris Championship Finals Rodeo.
The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo is running Sept. 2 to Sept. 4.
