KAMLOOPS - If you’re looking to go for a swim this weekend, you can check out the new pool toys at the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre in Kamloops.

City officials announced this week the community pool will now feature a six-metre high indoor climbing wall and zip swing. There will be a free swimming session on Saturday, April 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. so residents can check out the new equipment.

Aquatic programs supervisor Heidi Ogilvie says the climbing wall will give swimmers a chance to learn new skills and give them an alternative from a traditional diving board. It's also the first of its kind in the cities’ pools.

“In Kamloops this is the only one,” Ogilvie says. “We had an older one that was there, but this one is ten times more fun and challenging.”

She says the climbing wall will let swimmers learn about balance.

“It’s certainly going to be an active piece,” Ogilvie says. “It’s another way climbers can challenge themselves while still being able to drop into the pool."

The AquaClimb Kurve wall is the tallest indoor aquatic climbing wall in North America. The climbing wall and zip swing will be available during public swims for swimmers aged seven and up.

During this weekend’s free swim, kids will also get a chance to participate in games, activities and win prizes. Some of the prizes include free swimming lessons and a free pool party.

The new playing equipment was put in place as part of a renovation project to update the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre.
