PENTICTON - A woman who was arrested and released in the homicide of a Penticton man died in Alberta last month, according to police.

Police say in a release that they are continuing to investigate the death of Dale Atkinson but took the unusual step today, March 1, of saying the 'woman who was previously identified as a suspect' died Feb. 18, 2018 near Edmonton, Alta. RCMP spokesperson Dan Moskaluk said the unidentified woman was "released without charges pending further investigation."

Police have never indicated there was another suspect. They have informed Atkinson's family of the development.

Atkinson, 63, was found dead in his Woodlands Drive home June 12, 2017. Friends said he had 'typical relationship issues.'
