OLIVER - Fraud charges have been laid against a former Oliver elementary school parent advisory council treasurer.
Oliver RCMP recently completed an investigation lasting more than a year into the alleged theft of funds from the Parent Advisory Council at Oliver Elementary School, according to a media release.
Between June 2016 and January 2018 it is alleged Belinda Yorke used her position as treasurer to misappropriate funds from the advisory committee’s bank account, police say. The missing funds were reported to Oliver RCMP in January 2018, resulting in a year and a half long investigation.
Yorke resigned from her treasurer’s position in January 2018. She has been charged with fraud and theft over $5,000 and the matter is now before the courts.
RCMP media liaison officer Const. James Grandy said police acted with assistance and cooperation from the parent advisory council and the B.C. Gaming Policy Enforcement Branch prior to handing over their findings to the B.C. Prosecution Service.
