KAMLOOPS – Husband, father, grandfather and former Kamloops mayor John Dormer, passed away yesterday afternoon at 72 years old.

John was surrounded by family and holding his wife Marjorie's hand as he passed away at Royal Inland Hospital. Marjorie and John were married for 48 years. John suffered from a stroke earlier that day in his home, according to an email from his son Dave.

Dave says John cherished his role as a grandfather and that he spent his last morning happily making breakfast with his granddaughter Emily.

John is survived by his wife Marjorie and their children John, Dave and Julie, granddaughter Emily, his sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

“My dad was the most loving, generous, thoughtful and hard working person I’ve ever known," Dave says in a media release. "He taught us to always follow our dreams and also strive to make the world a better place for those around us. He left an indelible mark on all who knew him. We love him dearly and he will be missed.”

Dave added that his family would like to thank the staff at Royal Inland Hospital and that funeral arrangements will be released soon.
