The Kelowna International Airport announced that all airlines have cancelled flights up until 9 p.m.

“The status of flights after 9 p.m. and on Monday, Aug 21, is unknown, at this time,” according to a release from the airport.

Flights have been cancelled since Aug. 18 due to the wildfire situation.

Transport Canada and Airlines decides if flights are able to operate at YLW, the release says. Starting at 9 p.m. flights will be determined on a case-by-base basis. Tomorrow, Aug. 21, flight statuses will depend on the wildfire situation and weather conditions.

“YLW is having ongoing conversations Transport Canada, Nav Canada and BC Wildfire Services to allow for some operations to resume. These decisions are dependent on wildfire progression and are made with the safety of the community as the key priority.”

Passengers with vehicles parked at the airport will not be charged for any additional parking fees as a result of flight cancellations.
