KAMLOOPS - Flights between Vancouver and both Kamloops and Kelowna have already been cancelled tonight as the coast prepares for a winter storm.

In Kelowna, nine flights are currently listed as delayed, while four are cancelled. Flights arriving from or departing to Victoria, Vancouver and Seattle have all been affected, with WestJet cancelling flights.

Two Kamloops Air Canada flights have been cancelled so far today as well and airport manager Fred Legace says in an email more delays or cancellations are possible. Both flights were between Kamloops and Vancouver.

Legace says travellers should check with the airline as to the status of their flight for the most up to date information.

Travel plans throughout B.C. are being affected by the expected bad weather emanating from the coast. Weather warnings have been issued by Environment Canada for large parts of southern and coastal B.C. as snow, rain, or freezing rain is expected to hit tonight through those regions.

DriveBC has also issued a warning for the Coquihalla Highway, with snow, rain and freezing rain expected between Merritt and Hope. Up to 70 cm of snow is expected to accumulate over night. Environment Canada has forecast up to 50 cm in the Fraser Canyon along Highway 1 as well.
