First step of Westsyde pool repair to start next week

KAMLOOPS - Geotechnical testing is the first step in the repairs to the roof at the Westsyde pool.

The geotechnical tests will be happening at the pool on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26, according to a City of Kamloops media release.

Construction will begin this summer with the repairs scheduled to be complete in early 2017.

The fitness centre in the building will remain open until construction begins.

City council decided to repair North Kamloops’ only indoor pool April 6 after public consultations about all aquatic facilities in North Kamloops showed public support for the pool.

The pool has been closed since June 2015 because of roof issues discovered during the winter that year.

Residents on the Westsyde concerned the pool was going to be permanently shut down by the city and a new leisure pool built at McArthur Island submitted a petition to the mayor in January 2016 to keep the pool open.
